Send Relief and Tactical Faith

“How much larger your life would be if your self could become smaller in it; if you could really look at other men with common curiosity and pleasure; if you could see them walking as they are in their sunny sefishness and their virile indifference! You would begin to be interested in them, because they are not interested in you. You would break out of this tiny and tawdry theatre in which your own little plot is always played, and you would find yourself under a freer sky, in a street full of splendid strangers.”
– G.K. Chesterton
Part of what we strive to do at Tactical Faith is to help ourselves and others understand who we are in light of God and HIS world.  In order to work towards this goal, we are trying to find spaces and locales that allow us to meet people where they are in life.  One such opportunity was working with Send Relief during the Southern Baptist Convention in Birmingham, Al on June 8th.   We had the opportunity to help the Alabama State Board of Missions and the Southern Baptist organize a Medical and Dental fair on the campus of 6th Ave. Baptist Church.  We were able to help service a need in providing free dental and medical care to inner-city people while also sharing the Christian faith.  To see Christ conversations  happen, while also attending to needs, gave us all a temporary sense of the new Eden that we are all looking forward to in the future.   The here and not yet tension of the Kingdom of God was apparent and gospel-filled “living apologetics” of giving hope was evident.  For a brief moment I broke out of my tiny little theatre of one and was able to talk about Jesus to a street full of splendid strangers.
