Tactical Faith Radio – Episode #2

By May 2, 2014 June 26th, 2019 No Comments

Alan Cross Join us as we interview Alan Cross on our new podcast. He is the pastor of Gateway Baptist Church in Montgomery, AL, and the author of When Heaven and Earth Collide: Racism, Southern Evangelicals and the Better Way of Jesus. It’s published by New South, Inc.

Alan talks about his journey that brought him to Montgomery, and how that led him down the path of asking how the church could accept such rampant racism at certain times in it’s past. This study led ultimately to writing a book on the subject.

Were the good old days actually that good?  Are we making the same mistakes today, even if it doesn’t take the form of racism?  How did greek philosophy play a part in Southern culture?  Alan gives us his great analysis.

The ability to ultimately understand anything requires more than just the fierce determination of the will.  The starting point and the default position of any learning process must at its core be grounded in true humility.  It is humility that allows someone to correctly assess both external and internal situations.  In sports we see this play out over the life of a dedicated athlete.  When someone is young and learning a sport, they notice quickly how much their skills and knowledge are lacking especially in relation to sports heroes that are idolized.
